Here is a fantastic birth story. I hope it inspires those who truly need an induction to not just lie down and give up.

I love that Nikki just ignored  the interventions and hypnobirthed regardless.

Tony played a big part in this and I am sure Nikki and Sienna will be forever grateful for his wonderful strength and belief in Nikki.

And I think you will agree, Nikki looks even more gorgeous than Kate Middleton did, without the hair and make up team.

Positive BirthDear Pip,

Wow wow wow! Our birth of our beautiful little girl Sienna McInroe Leca absolutely blew my mind. This is our story:

We were induced after much debate and many appointments due to our little one being in the 3rd percentile from 20wks. Towards the end the placenta was running out of goodness and our amniotic fluid was getting low. So we decided the safest option was to be induced.

We went in on Tuesday night and they inserted a “Foley”. That started some very light surges that I easily slept through. After assessment in the morning I was 3cm dilated and my waters were broken at 12pm. Nothing happened so I went onto the drip.

I have forgot to mention luckily (as we were public at Fiona Stanley) we were blessed with the most amazing midwife.

She read through our birth plan, asked us questions and was 110% on board with our wishes.

Once on the drip surges came on pretty quickly. I bounced on the fit ball, walked around, lent against Tony, Tony did soft touch massage while somehow holding me up (he was amazing!!)

Thinking about it now I don’t even remember pushing the drip around but I must of!

The surges were intense, I listened to the hypnobirthing tracks over and over.

Positive Birth

Lynda, the midwife and Tony my wonderful partner encouraged me through my surges when they were getting too much.

I ended up using a little gas to get me through transition (not that I realised at the time that’s what was happening).

I also told Tony I couldn’t do it anymore and I would have to have an epi.

He told me over and over, “just take it one surge at a time, you’re doing great”.

All of a sudden I wanted my position to be on my knees on the ground and leaning into the lowered bed. Part way though one of my surges something changed and I instinctively had the urge to bear down I literately could no longer breath how I had been.

It took me a few seconds to remember the bearing down breathing and once I started it I could feel our baby coming down, the feeling I hope to never forgot it was out of this world.

I knew at this point I could do it, my amazing body was going to birth our beautiful baby.

The Ob came in and made me jump up on the bed to check the progress (I knew I was fully dilated) so she confirmed and let me get back to it… A few surges later the babies heart rate dropped.

Our wonderful midwife told me calmly they needed me to get up onto the bed for the last couple of surges as they needed to connect a monitor to the babies head.

I was so calm and in my zone that I did what I was told knowing that my body was amazing and our baby was only minutes away.

Three surges later (and me ignoring the Ob who was yelling at me to push harder, she clearly didn’t read the birth plan!!) and we welcomed a beautiful little girl into the world. She let out a couple of cries then instantly calmed when on my belly with her dad right there, both of us amazed at out perfect creation.

Positive birthThank you so much for everything you taught us. For giving us the power to have the most amazing and positive birth. It actually brings tears to my eyes thinking about how perfect the whole experience was. I had no stitches or tearing and no one could believe I had just given birth after a shower!

I now know how Kate Middleton looked so good! Haha

Thank you again.

Love Nikki, Tony and Sienna xx
