At Hypnobirthing Australia™ we recommend starting a course between 20 and 33 weeks, but is it ever too late for hypnobirthing?
Is there any point doing a Hypnobirthing Australia™ later than this?
Yes!
A lovely first time mumma contacted me at 38 weeks because she had only just found out about Hypnobirthing Australia™.
I actually thought we would get the course finished because she still had up to 4 weeks to go, but it turns out I was wrong.
Her membranes released a couple of days after our first session.
This is the email I got:
“Hi Pip,
Just wanted to let you know in advance that my waters have broken today so looks like we unfortunately won’t be able to have that second session.
Pretty sad about it as we both really enjoyed the first session.
But a big thank you as I feel so much more ready than I was before (I’ve been practising & listening to the audio!).
Thanks
F”
Luckily we had covered a lot of the tools plus A LOT of education so this is what I replied:
“Hi F,
How exciting.
Read through the bubble of comfort script as it is a great technique.
Stay calm and focused and trust N and you will be awesome.
Pip”
Education is a big part of a Hypnobirthing Australia™ course so this couple knew all about physiological birth and how to negotiated for the best outcome for their baby.
Anyway, read this email and I think you will agree that it is never too late for a Hypnobirthing Australia™ session and some Hypnobirthing Australia™ is always better than none.
“Hi again Pip
Just wanted to let you know that baby F arrived on Saturday 2 Dec at 11.35pm via natural delivery at KEMH weighing 2.91kg.
I was very close to getting an induction but managed to delay that long enough for bub to turn himself & then all of a sudden I was in active labour which only lasted 90 mins!!
Even though we only had 1 session I’m not sure I would have gotten through it all naturally without what we learned from you.
I stayed calm, managed to negotiate my way through all the medical interventions offered or were protocols & felt that I got the best outcome possible for me & bub.
I didn’t once feel scared, instead in control… well mostly!!
At the end I certainly didn’t remain 100% calm… I screamed my head off but my husband kept reminding me to use my breathing & apparently I did (more so than I can remember!!).
Perhaps with more time & practise I would have been better at this part!!
Also have to say that my husband really enjoyed our session with you (pretty sure he thought I was getting him into some hippy stuff!!) & he had a much clearer idea of his role during the labour which he then fulfilled perfectly.
He was a tower of strength for me & I wouldn’t have managed so well without him.
Thanks again
F & N”
