All births are special but I can’t help feeling extra proud when I get to be part of a midwife’s journey to motherhood.
Kim’s birth is such a perfect example of this.
Hi Pip,
I thought I would finally send you an update on how our birth went after Jackson and I attended your hypnobirthing course!
My birth could not have gone better!
On the 13th of August at 39+6 weeks, our little boy, Hamish, was born at home as planned.
I pushed him out standing up in our kitchen, and pulled him out myself!
I had laboured in the birth pool prior to this but needed to get out for a position change after pushing for a while.
It turns out he was deflexed from the caput he had above his forehead which is why a position change was needed!
A contraction sitting on the toilet and some rebozo while standing in the kitchen seemed to do the trick to get him out. But I was never rushed to push him out, he came in his own time with no pressure from anyone to hurry along.
I had listened to my hypnobirthing tracks every day in the lead-up, and feel this really helped me to be able to automatically tap into a calm state throughout my labour.
My midwife brain did try to come through when I had been pushing for 2 hours but my Midwife and support team were so calm and encouraging throughout and helped me to let go of any worry.
I had a physiological third stage, only cutting the cord about an hour after the placenta was out.
Hamish weighed 4055 grams, breastfed 5 mins after birth (with no trouble since), and was already above his birth weight after a week. He is now 5 weeks old today, and absolutely thriving!
I am so ecstatic about how my birth went, and really think part of that achievement was due to preparing with hypnobirthing.
One of the first things I said when he was born was “I did it! I did it!” and I feel so proud of myself for birthing my baby the way I did.
Thank you so much for your amazing workshop, myself and Jackson have both raved about it to everyone since.
Thanks again,
~ Kim & Jackson
